Survey Invites Community Input on Highland Park and Sun Ray Libraries--with Renovations Planned for 2014

Date: Aug 6th, 2013

The Saint Paul Public Library seeks input from community members and library users on the programs and amenities that will make the Highland Park and Sun Ray libraries great assets for their communities. Renovation projects are planned for 2014 at Highland Park Library, at 1974 Ford Parkway, and Sun Ray Library, at 2105 Wilson Avenue, Saint Paul.

Community members are invited to take a brief survey, available online at www.sppl.org/renovations and at the Highland Park and Sun Ray libraries in digital and paper form. Surveys will be collected through the month of August, and input will inform renovation plans and future services and amenities at these library locations.

The Saint Paul Public Library will host two public events to showcase the architectural designs for these libraries and to hear community feedback.

About the renovation projects at Highland Park and Sun Ray libraries
A public-private investment will support renovation projects at Highland Park and Sun Ray libraries. Construction at each library will begin in early 2014, with project completion anticipated in summer or fall of 2014. By modernizing and reconfiguring these facilities, the projects will produce more space for the public. The designs will anticipate the adaptability and technology needs of current and future library users.

Highland Park Library was built in 1954 (and known then as the Ford Parkway library). The building was redesigned in 1974, and the current library shares its facility with the Hillcrest Recreation Center. The renovation budget at Highland Park Library is $7,930,000.

Sun Ray Library was built in 1970, and minor renovations and additions were done in 1985 and 2000. The Sun Ray library renovation budget is $5,545,000.
