Saint Paul Public Library presents Rainbow Rowell in a free book talk and signing event featuring her young adult novel, Eleanor & Park, at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, at the Clarence W. Wigington Pavilion on Harriet Island in Saint Paul. Eleanor & Park has been selected for next year's Read Brave, the Library's citywide program that encourages youth and adults to read and discuss a book that explores issues facing teens today.

This week, the Saint Paul Public Library unveiled LSE Architects' new designs for 2014 renovations to Highland Park and Sun Ray libraries. "These designs show libraries that are inviting and light-filled and provide the flexible spaces and technology needed by today's library users," said Kit Hadley, director of Saint Paul Public Library. Nice Ride Minnesota will be coming to four Saint Paul Public Library locations to demonstrate the basic skills needed to safely ride a bike in the city. Following each of these free workshops, Nice Ride will lead a one-hour ride to practice these skills. Participants must be 18 years or older, and a limited number of Nice Ride bikes will be available at no cost.

The Saint Paul Public Library seeks input from community members and library users on the programs and amenities that will make the Highland Park and Sun Ray libraries great assets for their communities. Renovation projects are planned for 2014 at both libraries.

Rice Street Library will close for two months on Monday, August 12, to begin facility upgrades that will include creating more community space by redesigning the customer service desk area and installing an automated materials handling system. The Library plans to reopen by mid-October.

The Saint Paul Public Library is a great place to explore new technologies and hands-on creation. This summer four library locations are offering free, creative workshops for adults this summer where participants can experiment and create with inflatables, glowing clothing, folded structures, and shadow puppet animation. The Saint Anthony Park Library will reopen Monday, August 5 at noon and will host a grand reopening party on Wednesday, August 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.

At its annual forum in Chicago, the Urban Libraries Council (ULC) recognized the Saint Paul Public Library as a Top Innovator in its 2013 awards program.
