Downloadable eAudiobooks from NetLibrary
How does it work?
- Create a free NetLibrary account.
- Find an eAudiobook, either in the library catalog or directly on NetLibrary.
- Download the file from NetLibrary and acquire the license to play the file.
- Listen on your computer and/or transfer the file to a portable listening device.

Check-out policies
eAudiobooks are checked out for 21 days.
After 21 days, the title is “returned” to NetLibrary. Titles can not be returned early.
The file on your computer is unplayable after 21 days. You will need to manually delete the file from your computer and/or portable player.
Up to 6 titles may be checked out at a time.
Titles can be renewed once. Renewal is for 21 days from the date of renewal.
eAudiobook titles may not be placed on hold. How do I find eAudiobooks?
There are two ways to search for eAudiobooks:
1 - Search the Library Catalog
- Search just as you would for any other library item. You can limit your search by the material type "online access" to narrow your search.
- From the record, follow the link for access from inside or outside the library.
- To find all downloadable eAudiobooks, search by subject: downloadable audio books.
2 - Search in NetLibrary
How do I download and listen to an eAudiobook?
If you are using a PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista, download the NetLibrary Media Center or Download Manager.
Macintosh computers use manual download (not NetLibrary application needed).
Once you have found a title to download ...
- Save the file to your computer and/or portable listening device.
- If you are using the Media Center, the license is acquired during the download process.
- If you are not using the Media Center, open the eAudiobook file while connected to Internet to acquire the license (not required for MP3 files).
- Listen to your eAudiobook on your computer and/or transfer to your portable listening device.
Using NetLibrary eAudiobooks with a Macintosh and iTunes
Using a Library computer is not recommended.
- If you use a Library computer, save the file to a portable drive, and then open the file on your own computer to get license.
- You can open the file on on an Internet computer at the library, and then transfer it to your portable drive. Once you have done so, you may not be able to open the file on another computer.
- eAudiobook files cannot be opened on catalog computers at the Library.
- Time limits for use of library computers apply for downloading or listening to eAudiobooks.
- Library staff may not be able to assist you with your portable drive or listening device.
Additional Information
CD Quality vs. Radio Quality
- "Radio-quality" files are much smaller, meaning a faster download. They will play on a computer, but do not work for transferring to a portable device.
WMA vs. MP3 Files
- MP3 files can be played on Macintosh computers and iPods.
- WMA files cannot be played on Macintosh computers of iPods
