Read With Me

What is Read With Me?

Read With Me is a literacy program offering free help with reading and writing for 1st,2nd, and 3rd graders. Children are paired with tutors who work one-on-one with each child to improve their literacy skills.

Read With Me is available at all Saint Paul Public Library branches. Children and tutors meet for one hour per week. Branch locations and meeting times will be determined by participants and the Read With Me coordinator.

Child and volunteer participation is required for 1 hour a week, lasting one full semester. Participants must be at their scheduled weekly meeting.

If your child is in grades 1 through 3 and struggles with reading or writing, you can sign them up for free tutoring.

Volutneer Frequently Asked Questions

What is my commitment as a volunteer?

Tutors must commit to one hour-long meeting each week for at least one semester. A year-long commitment is preferred. All meetings are held at a branch of the Saint Paul Public Library.

What qualifications are required?

Tutors must have basic skills in reading, writing, and communicating with children. Tutors must submit to a background check before beginning the program.

Is training provided?

Yes! Tutors are required to attend a three-hour training session. At this training session, tutors will learn basic teaching techniques and activities.

How old must I be to volunteer?

Volunteers in the Read With Me program must be in the 8th grade or higher.
