John Pope Named Saint Paul Public Library Volunteer of the Year

John Pope, Saint Paul Public Library Volunteer of the YearThe Saint Paul Public Library recently named downtown resident John Pope as its 2006 Volunteer of the Year. Pope was presented the award on April 25 at the Saint Paul Public Library's annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.

John Pope has served as a library volunteer for ten years and is currently working at the Central Library Store. Pope also volunteers at the Ebenezer Care Center in Minneapolis, where he assists in music therapy and taking care of dementia residents.

John Pope served in the Army during the Korean War, worked as Library Assistant in the University of Michigan Libraries and taught in several school systems.

Upon accepting the award, Pope quoted the great Argentine writer and librarian Jorge Luis Borges: "I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library."
