September 7, 2006 Minnesota Literacy Council to Offer Adult Basic Education Classes at New Rondo Community Outreach LibraryThe Minnesota Literacy Council (MLC) will offer free English as a Second Language (ESL) and computer classes for adults at the new Rondo Community Outreach Library, which opens on September 9, 2006. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. MLC plans to expand programming to include one-to-one and small group tutoring in a variety of areas including basic reading and writing, math, and GED skills in the future. MLC will meet the learning needs of area adults by mobilizing a staff of community volunteer tutors to teach classes and assist in the computer lab. MLC Adult Direct Services Manager Astrid Liden notes “To ensure that we are adequately staffed for classes that start mid-September, we need to recruit and train at least 20 volunteers.” For further information about MLC classes at Rondo Library or volunteer tutor opportunities, please contact Astrid Liden at 651-645-2277 ext. 204 or aliden@theMLC.org. The Rondo Community Outreach Library is located at 461 North Dale Street, at University Avenue in St. Paul. ### The Minnesota Literacy Council (MLC) is dedicated to sharing the power of learning through education, community building and advocacy. Founded in 1972, MLC is a statewide, non-profit organization that offers literacy services to adults, trains volunteers to become literacy tutors, supports community literacy programs, and helps at-risk kids and their families gain literacy skills for increased success in school and life.
