Teens Rock the Library

PDF | Word

Catch the Beat logoHave you heard? The Saint Paul Public Library is going to be a part of the first ever national rock and roll library tour! Last summer the Detroit band The High Strung toured Michigan Public Libraries as part of the summer reading program and attracted quite a lot of attention, including a spot on NPR’s “This American Life.” This summer, with backing from the American Library Association, they will tour libraries across the country.

Saint Paul’s Central Library has partnered with McNally Smith College of Music to bring this talented band to the Twin Cities. The concert will take place on Sunday, July 23 at 2:00 p.m. at McNally Smith and will include a special appearance by a local band, The Abdomen. During The High Strung performance, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions about the music business and can participate in writing a song with the band. Thanks to the Bookmobile staff, concertgoers will also be able to tour the new Bookmobile before and after the show!

Teens will be awarded pairs of tickets for the event in a random drawing at participating Saint Paul Public Library locations. You can find more information about these bands and other summer reading program events on our new teen website: www.sppl.org/teensite
