The Saint Paul Public Library is celebrating Teen Read Week by hosting several teen events at Central Library, Highland Park Branch Library and Merriam Park Branch Library Oct. 16 - 22. Teen Read Week is more than reading books and magazines - it’s focused on current trends, electronic media, gaming, hip hop and more. The Saint Paul Public Library offers a variety of learning opportunities for teens with different interests.

Thursday, Oct. 18, 11 a.m. - How to Make a Monster: Makeup effects artist Christian Hanson talks about how to make a monster.

Thursday, Oct. 18, 12:30 p.m. - CSI Teenstyle: Join forensic scientist James Koch for an interactive, behind-the-scenes look at crime scene investigation.

Thursday, Oct. 18, 3 p.m. - Movie and Snax Fest: Enjoy a scary movie and tasty snacks.

Friday, Oct. 19, 10 a.m. - Scratch Animation for Teens: Learn how to make your own computer animation using free software.

Friday, Oct. 19, 12:30 p.m. - Getting into Graphic Novels: Read graphic novels? Ever wanted to draw or write one? Graphic novel writers and artists talk about their work and how they got into the field.

Friday, Oct. 19, 2:30 p.m. - Naruto-rama: Costumes, Treats and Movie: Enjoy a screening of the newly released anime Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow. There will be treats and a prize for best Naruto costume.

Tuesday, Oct. 16, 5 p.m. - Hip Hop Dance workshop for teens: Join Lisa Berman from SteppingStone Theatre for an hour of learning high energy hip hop dance moves. Pre-registration required. Limit of 15. Call 651-695-3700 to sign up.

Wednesday Oct. 17, 2 p.m. - Chinese Calligraphy workshop for teens: Instructor Cindy Wang will present an interactive class using ink and brushes to make simple Chinese calligraphy. Pre-registration required. Limit of 20. Call 651-695-3700 to sign up.

Thursday Oct. 18, 3 p.m. - Memoir Writing for Teens: Spend an afternoon writing with author Laura Flynn whose upcoming memoir "Swallow the Ocean" is forthcoming from Perseus Books. Pre-registration required. Limit of 12. Call 651-695-3700 to sign up.

Friday Oct. 19, 1 p.m. - Ghost Class 101: For Teens and Adults. Want to learn about real ghosts but were afraid to ask? Join Carol Lowell from The Center for Spiritual Development for a lively lecture followed by a Q and A. about her work as a Ghost hunter. No sign up necessary.
