Saint Paul Public Library Heats up Winter Carnival Festivities

The Saint Paul Public Central Library, located across from Rice Park downtown Saint Paul, will extend library hours from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, February 2 to host cultural programs and a unique candlelight tour of the historic library.

Central Library, an Italian Renaissance revival styled building that has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975, was built in 1917 and was renovated and restored to its original splendor in 2002. Architectural highlights include the original puppet stage built in 1949, hand-painted ceilings and the F. Scott Fitzgerald Alcove.

11:15 a.m. - Youth Services
Saturday Live: Dakota Children. How did Dakota Indian children spend their days in the mid-1800s? Listen to stories about Dakota children learning, working, and playing.

1:30 p.m. - 4th floor
History Theatre and the Saint Paul Public Library Present: The Meeting, A History Theatre Production. Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday and Black History Month by joining a discussion panel by actors Terry Bellamy, Darien Johnson, and artistic director Ron Peluso from the History Theatre.

4 p.m. - Central Library, meet in entrance lobby
Candlelight tour of Central Library. Come experience the history and elegant building features.

4:30 p.m. - Youth Services
Before the Torchlight Parade, Magician Matt Dunn will show us what magic is all about. The program is fun for all ages.
