October 12, 2007 Salute to Saint Paul Public Library Youth and Teen VolunteersLocal celebrities honor youth and teen volunteers for their service to the communityMore than 200 youth and teens fill the ranks of the Saint Paul Public Library’s Youth Volunteer Corp, and on Tuesday, Oct. 23, from 3 p.m. to 4: 45 p.m, at Rondo Community Outreach Library Auditorium in Saint Paul, many youth volunteers will be honorably recognized. The event begins with a welcome by Brad Bombardir, a representative of the Minnesota Wild, followed by a salute from Sara Grewing, Mayor Chris Coleman’s Chief of Staff, and remarks from Kathy Lantry, Saint Paul City Council President. A Minnesota Vikings player, Steve O from KDWB 101.3 FM, T.C. Bear, Minnesota Twins mascot, and Mudonna, Saint Paul Saints mascot, will be presenting awards to the youth and teen volunteers. Youth and teen volunteers represent nearly every Saint Paul public and private high school, middle school and elementary school. Additionally, many youth and teens come from Minneapolis, North Saint Paul, Oakdale and Woodbury schools to volunteer at the Saint Paul Public Library. Youth and teens typically volunteer during summer months and weekend days. The volunteers help in the homework centers, assist with the Read with Me program, Paw Pals, Summer Reading Programs, story times, computer classes, many special programs and events, and library beautification projects such as planting and watering flowers. The 2007 Saint Paul Public Library Youth Volunteer recognition event is sponsored by the Minnesota Vikings, and supported by The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, the Minnesota Timberwolves, Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Twins, Saint Paul Saints, KDWB 101.3 FM, John’s Pizza Café, Super America, Walgreens and Midwest Coca-Cola.
