Saint Paul Public Library Provides Free Summer Meals to Youth
In partnership with Saint Paul Public Schools; funded through U.S. Department of Agriculture
SAINT PAUL - For the first time this summer, the Saint Paul Public Library is providing free summer meals in four library locations until August 26. The Free Summer Meals Program is in partnership with Saint Paul Public Schools and is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
With a large number of kids and youth using library services during summer months, children can continue to receive nutritious meals during school vacations.
"Last summer our staff noticed how many kids were coming in hungry asking if we had food," said Kit Hadley, director of the Saint Paul Public Library. "We want to help kids continue to learn through the summer months and being hungry undermines it all."
The meals are available to youth 18 years old and younger. Persons older than 18 with a mental or physical disability who participate in a public or non-profit private school program may also receive meals.
The City of Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department have participated in the program for the past 17 years. This year it expanded to four locations including Arlington Hills, Dayton's Bluff, Riverview and Rondo Libraries.
Saint Paul youth interested in receiving free meals can visit a participating library or recreation center location during scheduled serving times. Pre-registration is not required, and most sites are open Monday through Friday. For complete meal times and location details, please visit www.sppl.org/meals [1]
The summer meal program kicked off Monday, June 20. Library locations include:
