Saint Paul, MN -Saint Paul Public Library cardholders can now enjoy popular eBooks on a wide variety of devices, from PCs and Macs to tablet computers and e-book readers. Library customers can check out eBooks from a new service called OverDrive by visiting the Library's website at www.sppl.org .
"We're excited that customers can access and enjoy new books through new technology at the Library," said Kit Hadley, Library Director. "Library cardholders can find and download titles on the Library's website and start reading in a matter of minutes."
After library users check out an eBook with a valid library card it can be downloaded to a PC or Mac computer and transferred to a variety of eReaders including the Barnes & Noble NOOK, Sony Reader, and many others. eBooks can also be downloaded on mobile devices such as Android, BlackBerry, iPhone/iPad, and Windows Mobile devices. Links to free apps and software are available on the Library's website. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees.
And that's not all. Saint Paul Public Library customers can use www.sppl.org  to download eAudiobooks and free music from Freegal, Sony Music's library catalog of artists. By using Freegal, people can download three free songs per week and they never expire.
With just a library card and an Internet connection, residents can enjoy eBooks, eAudiobooks, great music and more.

What: Saint Paul Public Library offers OverDrive services, which is a technology that allows patrons to lend e-books.
How it works: Library customers sign into sppl.lib.overdrive.com using their library card and then can browse a book catalog, download available titles or put themselves on waiting lists for in-demand titles.
On a computer: Downloaded books are readable on a Windows PC or a Macintosh with Adobe Digital Editions software (adobe.com/products/digitaleditions ).
On an e-book reader: Once downloaded to a PC or Mac, OverDrive books can be transferred to an Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony Reader or other e-book readers via the Adobe Digital Editions application. For a list of known compatible devices, click here.
On a smartphone or tablet: OverDrive provides apps for Apple and Android mobile devices that allow direct book downloads, without using a PC or Mac to transfer files.
