Free eBooks Downloaded at Record Rates at Saint Paul Public Library
eBook lending increased by 645 percent in nine months
Saint Paul, MN - Saint Paul Public Library customers are using their new and old eReaders to conveniently download free eBooks through the library's website, www.sppl.org .
Customers downloaded nearly 200 eBooks from Saint Paul Public Library on December 26, reaching an all time daily high for the eBook lending service first offered to library customers in April 2011.
Overall, eBook downloads have increased dramatically, with 3,483 eBooks downloaded in December 2011 compared with 467 eBooks downloaded in April 2011 - a 645 percent increase over the past nine months totaling 15,532 downloads in 2011.
Saint Paul Public Library customers also can download free music from Freegal, a service that provides access to tens of thousands of songs from Sony Music's catalog of legendary artists. By using Freegal, people can download three free songs per week and they never expire.
"It's great so many library card holders take advantage of available library services that bring a lot of enjoyment," said Kit Hadley, Library Director. "It's a convenient service where customers can check out eBooks or download music anytime, anywhere by visiting our website at www.sppl.org ."
After library users check out an eBook with a valid library card, it can be sent to a Kindle or downloaded to a PC or Mac computer and then transferred to a variety of eReaders including the Barnes & Noble NOOK, Sony Reader, and many others. eBooks can also be downloaded on mobile devices such as Android, BlackBerry, iPhone/iPad, and Windows Mobile devices. Links to free apps and software are available on the Library's website. Titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees.
Registered library card holders also can download three Sony Music tracks in the MP3 format each week using their library cards and pin codes.
