Census Resources

Print Resources at the Central Library

Population Census Collection at the Central Library (.xls)
A list of documents from the Census of the Population (with the addition of some from the Census of Population and Housing). The majority of these are available at the Central Library (2nd Floor, Nicholson Information Commons -- Population Census collection at the beginning of the Government Documents collection).

Those that are not available at Central Library may be available on the Census Bureau website or at the University of Minnesota's Wilson Library or elsewhere on the Internet. If there's a document or topic you are looking for that you don't see listed here, please ask a librarian.

The Saint Paul Public Library also has a large collection of Census documents that cover topics other than those listed. Please ask a librarian for access.

Many documents are also available online at the Census website, listed by decennial census. This website has the additional value of listing many Census documents that are not on this list, whether or not they're actually available on the website. These include documents on economics, manufacturing, agriculture & fisheries, and Census procedural documents. This is a good tool to help you find additional relevant documents.

You may also be able to find full-text electronic Census documents through the websites for Hathi Trust and Google Books.
