Biography Clippings File

This is a collection of over 150,000 newspaper clippings from Northwest Publications Inc., former publishers of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch that is housed at the Central Library. The clippings are from years 1910 to 1945 and include articles on people of local, national and international interest.

This is a valuable resource for local history, genealogical research and as a primary source for students and researchers.

How to Use the Biography Clippings and Index

The following index of names can be used to identify articles about specific people. The number behind some names indicates the number of clippings in the file. Many of the oldest entries in the clippings files (1910-1911) are simply citations to the article, not the actual article. The Central Library does have a complete collection of the Saint Paul Pioneer Press and Dispatch on microfilm, so the article can be retrieved.

Please call the Saint Paul Central Library (651-266-7000 x 5) in advance to ensure the requested clippings are available. A maximum of five (5) clippings may be viewed at one time; they must be used in the Nicholson Room only.
