Rondo Community Library Update

SCHEMATIC DESIGN AND COMMUNITY SURVEY

The Library project team and design firm, MSR, are finalizing the design for interior renovations at Rondo Community Library. The goal of the new design is to improve the library user experience. The design is informed by patron and staff feedback and experience in the space and as well as staff conversations with the design team.

Schematic designs for the renovations and surveys are available at Rondo Community Library at the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center. Stop by the library anytime to share your thoughts and feedback. The survey is open now through March 27.

TRANSFORMING LIBRARIES UPDATES COMING TO RONDO COMMUNITY LIBRARY

While Rondo Community Library is temporarily closed for renovations to improve the library user experience, it will also undergo Play and Learn and technology-rich enhancements that all locations will receive as part of Transforming Libraries initiative. We are pleased to be able to prioritize making these investments in Rondo Community Library while it temporarily closed for other updates.

Technology updates

Through SPPL’s tech-rich vision, meeting and study rooms at all libraries will be upgraded to with ample outlets, projectors, video capability, virtual meeting supports, and more to support residents’ needs to work, study, gather, connect, and do life at the library. Surveys about technology enhancements for meeting rooms will be sent in March everyone who reserved a meeting or study room at Rondo Community Library throughout the last 18 months.

Play and Learn updates

SPPL is finalizing its systemwide design guide for Play and Learn spaces for families. The guide, developed in collaboration with LSE Architects, will serve as a strategic roadmap for how each library’s children’s area evolves into an interactive family learning center that sparks imagination and wonder and reflects the cultures that make up the community. Rondo Community Library’s children’s area received a refresh in recent years thanks to funding from The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library. With the newly completed Play and Learn guide, SPPL will complete that refresh in 2026, fully realizing the vision for interactive spaces that spark learning for the whole family.

Rondo Community Library at University and Dale is expected to reopen by late 2026 after all renovations and Transforming Libraries updates are completed. Please visit us at our temporary library location at the Hallie Q. Brown Community Center.
