Special-Edition Library Cards

Minnesota Timberwolves are partnering with Hennepin County Library and Saint Paul Public Library to offer a special-edition library card designed to inspire reading, celebrate local creativity, and strengthen community connections across the Twin Cities.

Local printmaker, bookmaker and fiber artist, Delia Touché, designed the card Delia Touché is a Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota and Assiniboine printmaker, bookmaker, and fiber artist based in the Midwest. A citizen of Spirit Lake Nation, their multidisciplinary practice explores the estranged and complex relationship they hold with their Indigenous identity, drawing from familial archives, Dakota and Assiniboine cultural frameworks, Native nuances, diaspora, wry humor, and pop culture.

Delia’s has exhibited nationally and internationally at venues including Travemeise (Lübeck, Germany), San Francisco Center of the Book, Missoula Art Museum, The Art Galleries at Austin Community College (Austin, TX), Cranbrook Art Museum, BULK Space (MI), Minnesota Center for Book Arts, All my Relations Gallery (Minneapolis, MN), and Die Graphische (Vienna, Austria).

Their work is held in permanent collections at the Walker Art Center, North Dakota Museum of Art, Minnesota Historical Society, American Prairie, Northwestern University, Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, as well as in numerous private collections.

Delia earned a BFA in Drawing from Minnesota State University Moorhead and an MFA in Print Media from Cranbrook Academy of Art, where they were awarded the Gilbert Fellowship.

Delia Touché designed the Saint Paul Public Library card. They reflect on the meaningful relationship between basketball and Native American students stating that, “Basketball was introduced to Native American students during the Boarding School Era as part of broader efforts to assimilate Indigenous youth; to sever cultural and community ties. Rather than being a successful tool for assimilation, the sport became a source of refuge, resilience, and community for Native People.

“Native people developed a deep, communal connection to basketball. The game allowed a place for refuge and escape during a time when harmful policies were implemented to erase Native American culture. Structural and spiritual parallels to ancestral games were recognized, turning a tool of erasure into a source of cultural connection.

“Basketball holds a special place in Indian Country and has become more than a sport. It creates a space for gathering, healing, and a way of carrying culture forward. I combined personal archives of my own community’s basketball tournaments with Indigenous iconography to reflect on the ways basketball has become intertwined with cultural identity.”

Yes, in 2027 we also plan to introduction of a special-edition Minnesota Lynx library card created by a local artist. 

No, this launch does not include stickers or other merchandise.

Saint Paul residents can visit their local Saint Paul Public Library to get a card.  

Yes. As with all of our library cards, you must be a Saint Paul resident to get a Saint Paul Public Library card. However, staff can help you get set up with a library card from your city/county of residence at any of our library locations. Hennepin County residents have their own special-edition Timberwolves library card and can get theirs at any Hennepin County Library location.

No, getting a library card is always free!

Yes, you can replace your current library card with a special-edition library card, but you will be issued a new account number. This means that the account number associated with your current card will be deactivated. Deactivation will impact e-resources such as Libby and LinkedIn Learning. Staff can transfer your current Libby account details to your new card number. LinkedIn Learning details cannot be transferred to a new card number.

No, it does not cost you anything to get a replacement card. Please note, if you are replacing your current library card, the account number associated with your current card will be deactivated. Deactivation will impact your SPPL account, as well as e-resources such as Libby. Staff can help transfer your current account details to your new card number. Please note that LinkedIn Learning activity cannot be merged to a new library card number.

If you are able, library cards must be picked up in-person at an SPPL location. All library locations will have a supply of special-edition library cards. If your library location is out, we encourage you to check other library locations! The card is available while supplies last.
