Grasshopper Jungle

Grasshopper Jungle

Admittedly, this is not the best place for a book review.  But selfishly, I want more people to read this book so I can talk about it.  I'm a grown-up.  When I read YA fiction (which is almost exclusively what I read), I often try to think if teens I know would like it.  With this book, I knew most teens would enjoy it, and, as much I hate to say it, especially boys.  Not because books are "guy picks" or "chick flicks" but because boys are so often misrepresented in books.  I've never felt so much like I crawled into the skin of a 17-year-old boy as when I read this book.

And then there's the bug-to-human violence.  The book is gory, crude, and violent.  Which is why I'm putting my review here.  This is not a book I can hand to the teens I think would love it.  Why?  Because I don't want them thinking about me at all when they read it.  I don't want to ruin the book because the boy reading it thought about the lady the age of his mom read it and then suggested the book to him.  He'd know that she read the phrase, "It made me horny" more times than she could count. So here you go: read it.
