Volunteering at the LibraryVolunteers are an essential ingredient to Saint Paul Public Library's service to customers. Volunteers give their time and their diverse talents to support professional staff in providing high quality customer service at all of our library branches. We take great pride that over a quarter of our volunteers have remained active for more than 5 years. In 2009, 1029 youth and adult volunteers contributed 27,434 hours in service to the Library. We have a diverse force of volunteers who do a wide variety of tasks. Volunteer opportunities can be found in technical services, tutoring, and public services. Volunteers serve as homework helpers, gardeners, literacy tutors, help teach computer classes and assist with clerical and maintenance tasks.
How to VolunteerIf you are 12 years or older you may apply to be a volunteer at SPPL, by contacting Wendy Neurer, the Volunteer Coordinator, at 651-266-7420 or at wendy.neurer@ci.stpaul.mn.us for an application and to discuss volunteer opportunities. An interview will be scheduled, discussing time commitments, skills, and interests. Minors must have written parental/guardian permission. A variety of short-term and on-going volunteer projects are available. An average volunteer commitment is two hours a week for a six month period. There are many positions which complement different schedules, skills, and interests. Volunteer Opportunities
