1930 Census Microfilm Locator
A comprehensive guide to the 1930 census, released to the public on April 1, 2002. Includes information on how the census was taken, which records survive today, and how to find microfilm that may contain your family's records. From the National Archives and Records Administration.

American Family Immigration History Center - EllisIsland.org
Information on the 22 million immigrants and ships' crews who arrived at Ellis Island and the Port of New York between 1898 and 1924. The site also includes "The Peopling of America," a "timeline showing forces behind immigration and their impact on the immigrant experience." Some parts of the site require free registration.

Ancestry.com
This popular genealogy and family history site includes the Social Security Death Index, message boards, and numerous links to military records, census information and genealogy guides. Includes both free and fee-based information.

Ancestry Library (In library use only)
Library version of Ancestry.com. Features comprehensive information for genealogical research. Includes digitized images of the U.S. Federal Census from 1790 forward, the Social Security Death Index, the American Genealogical-Biographical Index, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, and much more.

Census Finder
This directory links to over 29,000 free census sites. Primarily focused on the U.S., there are also some links to Canada, Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom. Also a guide to historical museums in the U.S. and Native American census information.

Civil War Soldiers and Sailors
Free search site for Civil War troops, both Union and Confederate. Searches may be made for soldiers, sailors, regiments, prisoners, cemeteries, battles, Medal of Honor recipients, and parks. This site is maintained by the National Park Service.

National Archives and Records Administration - Genealogy Page
Information on research facilities and online resources, including tips on beginning your genealogical research, catalogs of census microfilm available from NARA, and links to other genealogical resources on the web.

Rootsweb
With copious links to genealogical and family history resources as well as its own database of information, Rootsweb is notable for the breadth of its resources. Both Rootsweb & Ancestry.com are searchable from this site. Includes access to the Social Security Death Index .

U.S. GenWeb Project
Several freely-accessible genealogical projects from a group of volunteers working together to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States.

Where to Write for Vital Records
An alphabetical directory of state and territorial agencies to contact when looking for birth, death, and marriage records. The site lists addresses, phone numbers, fees, and internet sites.

Dakota County Historical Society
Information about the history of Dakota County, and a set of online databases including Dakota county obituaries and other records.

Minnesota Birth Certificates Index
An online index of birth certificates for births in the state from 1900 to 1934, provided by the Minnesota Historical Society. Copies of birth certificates can be ordered online.
