Administration on Aging
A division of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides information on older persons and services for the elderly. Including the Eldercare Locator, listings for local organizations providing services related to the needs of older people.

Medicare
Official site for U.S. government information about the Medicare program. Sections of this site allow visitors to compare health plans and nursing homes and other programs in their areas.

National Institute on Aging
Leads a broad scientific effort to understand the nature of aging and to extend the healthy, active years of life as well as the primary federal agency on Alzheimer’s disease research. The site includes link to other government sites, news, and health information.

Social Security Administration
Information on Social Security benefits, including retirement age, disability information, and online forms. Extensive coverage of the information is available in Spanish and most important information is available in other languages.

Minnesota Attorney General Senior Center
Information for seniors about consumer fraud, telephone service, and legal rights.

Minnesota Board on Aging
This site includes links to Minnesota services for seniors, information about the Minnesota Prescription Drug Program, and other assistance. The Board also sponsors the Senior LinkAge line at 1-800-333-2433.

Minnesota Department of Human Services: Aging
Links to a broad range of services for senior citizens in Minnesota.

Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging
Information about and for the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area's senior community. This site features demographic information, agency news, housing options, and links to statewide agencies on aging.

Community & Organizations

AARP
Official site for the group formerly known as the American Association of Retired Persons, maintaining that "age is just a number and life is what you make of it." This site includes a wide assortment of information from legislative issues to computer reviews to volunteer opportunities to information about money and work.

Minnesota Senior Federation (Metropolitan Region)
Extensive information for, about, and of interest to seniors, including legislation news, book reviews, health information, pension rights, and volunteer opportunities. There is also a statewide organization.

National Council on the Aging
Association of organizations and professionals dedicated to promoting the dignity, self-determination, well being, and contributions of older persons. This site features links to constituent groups within the NCOA, as well as articles and publications for a range of senior issues.

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)
Membership-based community of older adults in the Twin Cities metropolitan area who love learning and enjoy spending time with like-minded individuals. Read the newsletter, peruse the course guide, and choose from more than 180 courses and activities a year.

OWL (Older Women's League)
Focuses on the issues facing midlife and older women. The site includes reports and information about several issues of concern to older women.

Senior Journal
Daily news updates for active senior citizens. The site includes articles on fitness, enjoying life, money, politics, and other issues of concern to senior citizens.

SeniorNet
For computer-using adults, ages 50 and older. This online community offers a wide range of information and access, including book groups and discussion forums on over 400 topics. Some sections of the site require free registration.

Elderhostel
Providers of learning adventures for people 55 and older. Information on programs available as well as links to travel-related information, such as currency conversion, maps, passports, and weather.

Health & Fitness

Mayo Clinic
Medical and health information, including information on healthy living, diseases and conditions, healthy lifestyles, medications, and health news.

Merck Manual of Geriatrics
The full text of this medical reference is available online and can be searched by key word browsed by the table of contents or the index. The manual also contains useful information on the health aspects of aging as well as drug information and life issues for seniors and their families.

Infoaging.org
Consumer information on aging and health. Offers the latest information about aging research.

Alzheimer's Association
Resources for people with Alzheimer's disease, family and caregivers, physicians, and researchers about the disease, coping with Alzheimer's, and treatment options. There is also a Minnesota-Dakotas chapter.

American Cancer Society
Resources about cancer awareness, prevention, and treatment options. The site includes links to other web sites for more information about specific types of cancer. Some features of the site, including discussion boards, require free registration.

American Diabetes Association
Information and resources about diabetes.

American Heart Association
Warning signs, information, and resource relating to heart attacks, heart disease, and strokes. The site also includes information on risk assessment, family health, and advocacy.

Arthritis Foundation

Family Caregiver Alliance
This site features information on long-term care for adults coping Alzheimer's diseases, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and other related brain disorders.

National Alliance for Caregiving
Reports and resources for family caregivers of seniors.

Nursing Home Compare (from Medicare.gov)
Detailed information about the past performance of every Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing home in the country. Includes a Guide to Choosing a Nursing Home and a Nursing Home Checklist.

Nursing Home Report Card
Reports on Nursing Homes in the state of Minnesota. Provided by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Department of Human Services.

Minnesota Department of Health - Facility & Provider Compliance Division
Licenses and inspects health care facilities and providers (including hospitals, nursing homes, home care providers, hospice providers and other health care facilities) and certifies facilities to take part in Medicare and Medicaid programs. The Consumer Information area features links to Patients' Bill of Rights information, a directory of health care providers, and other information.

Long-Term Care Link

Senior Housing, Inc.
Helping senior citizens with suitable, adequate, and affordable housing. This site lists properties for sale or rent, as well as housing options for specialized care, in the Twin Cities metropolitan area.

Senior Corps
Information about volunteering with the Foster Grandparent, Retired Senior Volunteer, Senior Companion, and Seniors for Schools Programs, part of the Corporation for National Community Service. The site includes a link to national service opportunities in Minnesota.

Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE)
SCORE is a partner with the Small Business Administration, providing free counseling to small business owners. Volunteers donate their time and talent to assist America's entrepreneurs.
